2014 VHRA Media Reception

One of VHRA's most popular events will once again take place at the Arizona Biltmore in October. The annual Media Reception offers the opportunity to network with the Valley's top local media contacts, meet local elected officials, enjoy time with your peers and sample the Valley's best hotel and resort cuisine. Hear from experts in the culinary, wine and resort industries on what they believe will be the new developments in the coming year as well as any upcoming challenges in the food and beverage business. This annual educational event brings together more than 200 junior and senior Maricopa County high school students to educate them about the many opportunities in the hospitality and lodging industry. The day's schedule includes sessions featuring speakers in the many different fields of our industry including Culinary, Human Resources, Sales & Marketing and Guest Services. We rely on members to serve as our industry experts to lead these sessions and also host an interactive luncheon that provides speaking and sponsorship opportunities. Member participation is strongly encouraged. We are always looking for dynamic speakers and we also do a teacher raffle and goodie bags for the students. The newly updated 2014/2015 VHRA membership directories are being printed and will be mailed to primary member contacts within the week. They will also be distributed to members of the media for industry resource information at the Media Reception.

2015 VH&RA Membership Investment
During the budgeting process, please remember to include VHRA's 2015 annual investment. Invoices will be mailed in November and are due by January. For questions, please contact Wendy Johnson.

STR 2015 Forecast Available to Members
If you were unable to attend the VHRA August Breakfast featuring a 2015 forecasting presentation by Smith Travel Research, you can still request a copy of the presentation to assist during budgeting season. This exclusive member benefit contains proprietary information and is therefore only available to members upon request. NCAA Final Four Site Selection Committee Visits Phoenix
VHRA President & CEO, Debbie Johnson, was part of the host committee that welcomed the NCAA bid selection committee to the Valley last week. The eight-member group from around the country is considering Phoenix for the location for the NCAA Final Four in 2017, 2019 or 2020. The group was impressed by the caliber of hotels and attractions that were showcased and commented many times on the level of excitement and hospitality that our destination expressed. Debbie will travel to Indianapolis in November for the final presentation and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome this event to Arizona.

NAU offers scholarships for new MBA for Hospitality Executives
NAU is expanding its Excellence in Hospitality to an MBA-h degree. This two year executive MBA-h program begins in January of 2015 and allows students to earn their MBA while continuing to work. Designed with your busy schedule in mind, the MBA-h curriculum is formatted into six terms with the majority of the coursework online and a 3-6 day residency at the beginning of each term. The College is offering a $5,000 scholarship to any eligible MBA-h candidate who is an active member in one or more local associations or association chapters with the primary focus of hospitality or tourism.
