2014 VHRA Media Reception
Thursday, October 16
Arizona Biltmore Resort
One of VHRA's most popular events will once again take place at the Arizona Biltmore in October. The annual Media Reception offers the opportunity to network with the Valley's top local media contacts, meet local elected officials, enjoy time with your peers and sample the Valley's best hotel and resort cuisine. This is a highly anticipated event with limited availability so contact Alena Hicks to inquire about sponsorship.
VHRA Awards Scholarship Recipients
VHRA events such as the annual Golf Tournament and silent auctions contribute the annual scholarship fund, which supports worthy students looking to advance their career in the hospitality industry. VHRA recently awarded two $2,000 scholarships to Scottsdale Community College Hospitality & Tourism Management students. VHRA President & CEO, Debbie Johnson, along with VHRA Chair and General Manager of the Doubletree Resort by Hilton Paradise Valley/Scottsdale and the Hilton Scottsdale Resort and Villas were both there to recognize scholarship winners, Steven McFarlane and Krystin Colby. The Education Committee will be meeting soon to discuss ways to grow end enhance the Association's scholarship program thanks to the generous support of our members.

AzLTA Partners with the O'Connor House for the "Great Voter Challenge"
Following the 2012 elections, Arizona ranked 45th in the nation for voter turnout. To combat this startling statistic, O'Connor House has launched a new voter engagement project – The Great Voter Challenge to engage more Arizonans to fulfill their duty as citizens. AzLTA has pledged to assist in this effort by spreading the word to our members and encouraging tourism employees to register to vote in upcoming elections. The 2014 elections will be pivotal in shaping the future of our state and our industry and there is no better time or way to mobilize Arizona's 200,000 tourism employees than to encourage them to VOTE! Check out the AzLTA website for more ways to help! Signs are available by request for your break rooms and cafeterias. Please contact Hannah Fullmer to request your signs today!
